Institutional recognition and scientific productivity of women

Abstract

In recent years, academic recognition and the scientific productivity of women have become central topics in analyses of gender equity in science. Various studies indicate that traditional academic structures generate gender biases that hinder the visibility and professional development of female researchers. In this context, it is relevant to understand how scientific recognition influences professional development, the ability to produce scientific knowledge, and the achievement of organizational goals. The objective of this research is to examine the relationship between institutional recognition and the scientific productivity of women. This is a qualitative study that uses a literature review of various scientific sources related to the topic as its methodology. Factors such as access to resources, publication opportunities, leadership in research projects, and collaborative networks were identified in order to determine which of these elements have the greatest impact on institutional recognition and the scientific productivity of women. According to the findings, women tend to receive less recognition than men, even when they demonstrate comparable levels of scientific productivity. Among the factors analyzed, publication opportunities, leadership in research projects, collaborative networks, knowledge dissemination, and leadership emerged as particularly relevant to the development of scientific careers. The literature consistently indicates that this gender gap affects women’s participation in decision-making bodies, their opportunities for academic promotion, and their integration into scientific communities. Consequently, it is concluded that fostering an institutional culture based on merit, transparency, and inclusion can strengthen scientific productivity and promote gender equity in research.
